Reuters seeks an auto correspondent in Germany

Reuters is looking for an experienced journalist to help lead ambitious coverage of the German automotive sector at the world’s largest multimedia news provider. This posting comes at a time when a shift from combustion engines to electric and autonomous cars intensifies competition between established automakers and newer players such as Tesla or Apple. The transformation of automakers and their global suppliers is one of the biggest stories in the global industry.

The successful candidate will need to both stay on top of fast-moving spot news and deliver enterprise stories. We are seeking a journalist with a track record of developing sources and breaking news as well as enthusiasm for teamwork. While collaborating with our global autos team, the correspondent will act as part of a team of German-language and international journalists in Germany, covering the country’s global carmakers and suppliers, which include heavyweights like Volkswagen, Daimler and BMW as well as suppliers like Continental and Bosch.

Key responsibilities of role:

  • Writing spot copy in English on automotive-related topics
  • Pitching and developing deeply-reported enterprise stories on the automotive sector
  • Generating scoops and exclusives
  • Liaising with TV and photo teams to ensure stories are multimedia where possible
  • Playing a key role in winning top timings by communicating quickly and clearly
  • Helping to cover breaking news out of Germany

Qualifications:

  • At least 5 years of experience in company news reporting desirable
  • Good German, excellent written English
  • An ability to build contacts with relevant sources
  • A passion for breaking news with a sharp eye for discovering industry trends
  • An ability to generate stories that attract investors across the globe
  • An ability to be fast and accurate in whatever you do; adhering to the TR trust principles and standards
  • An ability to work as part of a team across languages and media
