Washington Post business editor David Cho, deputy business editor Zachary Goldfarb and technology editor Christina Passariello sent out the following announcement on Wednesday:
Rachel also worked for five years as a technology reporter for the Seattle Times and the Puget Sound Business Journal. She tracked the Seattle region’s growing startup scene, the impact of Amazon’s expansion and Microsoft’s return to relevance. At the Seattle Times, Rachel wrote about the ethics of using facial recognition at an elementary school and the growing call for greater diversity at tech companies.
Rachel started her career covering local government at the Skagit Valley Herald, near Western Washington University, where she received a bachelor’s degree in journalism. The Pacific Northwest is her first home, though the sunshine and restaurants of San Francisco have persuaded her to adopt Northern California as a compelling second.
Rachel lives in San Francisco’s Lower Haight neighborhood. Before the spread of the coronavirus, she enjoyed reading in parks and persuading her friends who have cars to drive her to go hiking.
