Josh Schimmels will be joining The Los Angeles Business Journal as publisher and chief executive officer. His new role begins March 23.
Schimmels began his career at the Journal in 1999 with a five-year turn at the San Fernando Valley Business Journal, the Journal’s sister publication. He was also an associate publisher and vice president at the Business Journal from 2010 to 2015.
In his new role, Schimmels will be replacing Anna Magzanyan, who expanded the Business Journal’s audience and profits each year during her three years as publisher and chief executive.
“I’m truly excited to be coming back to the Business Journal and I’m looking forward to continuing the publication’s proud tradition as the leading source of news and information for L.A.’s business community,” Schimmels said. “The Business Journal continues to excel on all levels, and I have great respect for the work that Anna was able to do in her leadership role. “I’m eager to build on that success and to find additional ways to serve our devoted readers, advertisers and partners.”
Before joining the Business Journal, Schimmels was with AZ Big Media, where he served as publisher. Before that, he spent almost four years as business group publisher at D Magazine Partners in Dallas.
Schimmels has a bachelor’s degree in broadcasting from Arizona State’s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communications and a master’s degree from Arizona State University’s W.P. Carey School of Business.
