Insider Louisville, a nonprofit news agency, is ceasing publication on Wednesday. The organization posted the news on its website. Terry Boyd, a former Louisville Business reporter, started Inside Louisville and later sold the business. It operated as a for-profit for most of its existence.

The news coincides with a New York Times story that describes a “crisis in local journalism.” The article elaborated about the issues surrounding a lack of local journalism, such as low voter turnout, less government accountability, and more pollution.

The note posted on the Insider Louisville website reads as follows:

“Although Insider Louisville has had a great run with the help of key investors as a startup media outlet and then as a nonprofit news organization with foundation and individual donors, plus hundreds of sustaining members, the cost of operating has been too great to overcome,” the note says.
