In his five years at the Journal, Jack has demonstrated the savvy, versatility, and energy needed to tackle one of the most complex and challenging corporate beats. Since joining the San Francisco tech team in September, he’s covered a range of news while delivering features on topics including the physical side effects of virtual reality, the challenging economics of the hyperloop, how surge pricing is shaking up the zoo business, and the ill-conceived attempts of some entrepreneurs to automate roadside sign wavers. He’s been ably covering Google on an interim basis for the past several weeks.
Jack’s move to the world’s tech capital followed a successful stretch in the Chicago bureau, where he wrote about everything from oil-pipeline leaks to bank-robbery trends while jointly covering the airline industry and developing a cutting-edge sub-beat on the emerging civilian-drone industry.
A semi-renowned Motown karaokeist and Paper Bag Game ace, Jack hails from Worcester, Mass., and earned his undergraduate degree in journalism from Boston University. He wrote for the Boston Globe and the St. Petersburg Times before starting his Journal career with an internship in 2011.
