Wall Street Journal technology editor Jonathan Krim sent out the following staff promotion on Tuesday morning:
I am delighted to announce that Brian Fitzgerald has been named a deputy technology editor, based in the New York office.
In this newly created role, Brian will be primarily responsible for expanding the technology bureau’s multi-platform digital presence, outreach and creativity.
He will anchor and grow the Digits blog, conscripting, editing and in some cases creating items. More broadly, he will help drive a digital-first approach for the tech bureau, pushing social media efforts and developing innovative approaches to coverage and presentation.
Brian will coordinate with the breaking news and homepage operations, with the WSJ social media and mobile teams, graphics and database editors, with the video group, with developers and of course with the Marketplace team, all in service of expanding the digital footprint of tech coverage. Working with the analytics team, Brian also will be the bureau’s traffic guru, spotting trends, working with reporters and editors on tactics and implementing necessary changes to attract more readers to our journalism.
Brian is perfectly suited for this role. An essential fixture of the Journal’s digital operations for years, Brian has been instrumental in growing wsj.com through his stellar work managing the home page, collaborating with editors throughout the newsroom and coordinating with the 7th floor on publishing tools and innovations. He is a deep thinker about digital trends, an avid gamer and a must-read on Twitter (@BryFitz), especially if you are into technology or are a commuter on NJ Transit.
A graduate of Seton Hall University, Brian joined wsj.com after graduating in 1996. He lives in New Jersey with his wife and triplets, which is too mind-boggling to comprehend.
