Wall Street Journal assistant managing editor for training Brent Jones sent out the following announcement on Tuesday:
Hello, everyone.
I’m delighted to share that Cordelia A. Banny will join the Journal newsroom on Nov. 19 as Manager of Training & Outreach. Some of you might be familiar with Cordelia through her work as the program manager for Dow Jones’s Innovation team.
As we continue to redesign and expand training programs, Cordelia will work closely with me to develop and support offerings that fall under our four primary training pillars:
- Mastering the Craft — ongoing and anchored training that focuses on perfecting and protecting our peerless journalism;
- Digital Drivers — sessions that evolve with technology and the changing needs of audiences;
- Ideas & Insights — designed to hear from folks outside of the newsroom and workplace space, to better inform and inspire us; and
- Leading Growth & Success — training that looks at skills and experiences needed to attract, retain and support our journalists.
In addition to working across news teams to manage new and existing sessions and programs, Cordelia will execute on our shared vision to package, communicate and deliver training in creative ways to continue to build and support our newsroom’s progressive digital and global ecosystem. She also will help plan and support our participation at journalism conferences and strategic journalism partnerships.
In sharing with his department Cordelia’s career move, Dow Jones’s Chief Innovation Officer Edward Roussel, wrote: “I can think of no one more deserving of a promotion. Cordelia has worked with me since the inception of the Innovation unit 3 1/2 years ago, and she has been instrumental in its successes.” And our newsroom could not be more thrilled that Cordelia has agreed to join us to help us innovate, experiment and grow in our training space. Before joining Dow Jones in 2014, Cordelia worked as a project manager for WJM Associates, an executive coaching company. There, she played a central role in structuring workshops, overseeing implementation of coaching services and driving the organization’s digital transformation.
Cordelia will report to me and she will work closely with Newsroom Trainer Nancy Morse, who will focus on leading technical training, such as sessions on editorial tools and Methode publishing.
Please join me in welcoming Cordelia to our Journal family.
