Alex Frangos, Europe finance editor at The Wall Street Journal, sent out the following announcement on Wednesday:

Folks,

I’m ecstatic to announce two fantastic new additions to the M&I team in London.

Julie Steinberg will join as a finance reporter with an emphasis on covering the investors and institutions behind the biggest financial bets in the world, including London’s famed hedge funds. Julie comes to us most recently from the Asia finance team in Hong Kong, where she has been a consummate scoop getter and digger since 2015. She was previously a banking reporter in the Journal’s New York bureau where her stories on loopholes in securities laws led to actions by lawmakers and industry bodies to close them. She and a colleague won a Sabew award for their coverage of brokerage firm MF Global’s implosion. Julie was born in Canada but grew up in the U.S., setting off a lifetime of agonizing soul searching during the Olympics. She will start in early May (visa gods willing) and will report to Anuj.

Paul Davies comes aboard as a senior markets reporter, taking a front-and-center role in our financial markets coverage. Paul is no stranger to us, having served as the Heard on the Street’s financial industry columnist here in London for the past five years. Paul, who previously worked at the FT in London and Hong Kong, brings nearly 20 years of experience to the team and will immediately give us an authoritative voice on markets. He knows the building blocks of the financial system better than almost anyone, case in point: his nine-part series on the explosion of private markets, which was deeply reported and highly informative. When Brexit (or some other human-made catastrophe) explodes the financial system, there are few people I’d rather have on our newsroom floor than Paul. If you didn’t know already, Paul is a long-distance runner and occasional supporter of a North London football, um, soccer team called Tottenham Hotspur. He starts Friday and will report to me until a markets editor is named.

I’m super excited for both of these awesome folks to join our team. There will be more excellent announcements in the not-too-distant future.

Alex
