Russell Ray, the new editor of The Journal Record business newspaper in Oklahoma City, writes about why business journalism has thrived in the past decade.

Ray writes, “The Great Recession sparked an era of shrinking news sections and coverage, especially for business news. But business publications like The Journal Record have been filling the void, thriving amid a growing appetite for business news that can be used as a working tool for other businesses. Business-to-business news outlets are prospering in part because of their unique mission to share and recognize success stories about manufacturers, retailers and service providers who are using new innovations and strategies to grow their businesses.

“Telling these enterprising stories on all platforms is our specialty here at The Journal Record. It’s what separates us from the competition.

“Some of the most important and contentious issues debated today – medical marijuana, taxation, environmental policy and immigration – are grounded in business and economics. It’s why I became a business journalist and it’s why business journalism is thriving at The Journal Record. The need for a well-educated business press has never been greater.”
