Brian Tracey, the former editor of Reuters.com and a longtime business journalist, died this weekend of a heart attack.
“Those of you who worked with him knew Brian as a devoted newsman, fierce advocate, friendly ear around the newsroom and the proudest father ever, to his daughter Amanda,” said Dan Colarusso, executive editor of Reuters digital, in a note to the staff.
Tracey left Reuters in November 2015 after five years with the company. He had led a staff of 20 digital journalists responsible for producing multimedia content for Reuters.com, the flagship website and related mobile apps that reach over 22 million unique visitors monthly.
He was also a key member of the team that developed Reuters Next, a digital platform and content management system that presents news in streams that organizes content around trending topics and breaking news events that can be created by editors instantaneously.
Before Reuters, Tracey was online editor for Crain’s New York Business and a senior editor at MSNBC.com.
“I found him to be one of the most genuinely nice people to work with in New York journalism — daily proof that you could be a good guy and a good news guy at the same time,” said Glenn Coleman, who worked with Tracey at Crain’s.
He also worked as a news editor at American Banker and The Wall Street Journal.
Tracey graduated from Fordham in 1980.
