The Markup is rehiring Julia Angwin, its original editor-in-chief. The Markup is a tech news website that prides itself on combining investigative and data-driven journalism.
The Markup, based in New York City, planned on publishing by the end of the year.
Angwin was fired as editor of the Markup over three months ago in a move that nearly caused the entire editorial staff to resign.
She is back at the helm of The Markup, which also plans on taking a specific look at the way that the tech industry impacts consumer privacy.
Angwin acknowledged that the startup had work to do, stating: “Honestly, we need to prove we’re back and get people comfortable with us. It’s safe to come back in the water.”
