Jeff Harrington, 54, a longtime business reporter for the Tampa Bay Times, has been promoted to business editor of the newspaper.

He succeeds Chris Tisch, 43, who becomes audience editor, a new position aimed at expanding the Times’ reach on tampabay.com and tbo.com and its presence on social media.

Tisch has been the Times’ business editor since 2014.

Harrington came to the Times in 1998. A Notre Dame graduate, Harrington previously worked at the Cincinnati Enquirer, where he covered Procter & Gamble. He also worked at The Blade in Toledo, Ohio, and at the City News Bureau of Chicago.

Tisch came to the Times in 2000 after five years as a reporter at the Bradenton Herald and an internship in business at the Cincinnati Enquirer. He spent four years as a police reporter in the Times’ Clearwater bureau before moving to the Pinellas County courts beat.

Aside from covering many high-profile trials and legal issues, he co-authored a look at rising deaths from prescription drugs, which led to reform in Florida
