Felix Salmon2Roben Farzad of “Full Disclosure” interviewed Fusion’s senior editor Felix Salmon about his financial journalism career and the state of business journalism.

Salmon formerly worked for Conde Nast Portfolio, which launched in 2007 and closed in 2009.

“The idea behind Portfolio was that it was going to a a broad, but not fluffy, business magazine that would appeal to lots of women,” said Salmon. “But almost as soon as it started it ran headlong into the financial crisis. And what people wanted was analysis. But that was not what it was set up to do.”

Salmon left Portfolio one month before it closed for Reuters and stayed there for five years.

Earlier this month, Salmon wrote about how the New York Times Co. and Bloomberg should join forces. Farzad asked him about the article.

“I’m permanently fascinated by Bloomberg,” said Salmon.
