Sacramento Business Journal reporter Scott Rodd was arrested Monday night by Sacramento police while he was covering a protest in East Sacramento.
Business Journal editor Adam Steinhauer reports, “Sacramento Bee reporter Dale Kasler was also detained and released by police, the Bee reported. Sacramento State University student journalist William Coburn was also arrested, according to Rodd.
“The journalists were covering a protest in East Sacramento over Sacramento County District Attorney Anne Marie Schubert‘s decision not to prosecute the police officers who fatally shot Stephon Clark last year.
“Rodd said that he was arrested around 10 p.m. on the 51st Street overpass over Highway 50 after he and a group of protesters were surrounded on both sides by police in riot gear and ordered to disperse. Rodd said that he was arrested as he was photographing and taking video footage of the gathering, despite identifying himself as journalist, carrying a press card and wearing a shirt displaying the word ‘press’ in all capital letters.”
