Work & MoneyThe (Raleigh) News & Observer has cut its standalone Sunday Work & Money section, partly due to rising newsprint costs.

Executive editor Robyn Tomlin explained in an email to Talking Biz News:

These increased costs added to continued challenges in print advertising have forced us to continue to look for ways to reduce the cost of producing the print edition.

As a result, we decided to eliminate the Work and Money section, which consisted of two pages of mostly syndicated content. We moved some of those features to other parts of the Sunday edition, and we moved the Classifieds, which filled the remainder of that section, to a different part of the paper.

Our commitment to covering business remains strong. In fact, in our recent restructuring, we added two people to the local business and growth team.

We ultimately decided we would rather focus on using our limited print space on local business and development coverage.

One other thing to note. For those readers wanting more national and international business content, our expanded Extra Extra section in the e-edition contains 6+ additional pages a day and an extensive weekday Money and Markets package.
