Longtime journalist Tina Traster has launched an online business journal, the Rockland County Business Journal, in upstate New York.

Rockland has not had a publication entirely focused on business. The Business Journal will cover business from solo entrepreneurs to corporate entities. Daily postings include breaking news, profiles, features, briefs and columns.

The site is generating revenue through advertising and sponsorships.

Traster moved to Rockland County 14 years ago from Manhattan. She has worked for Crain’s New York Business and for The New York Post, writing real estate stories and a real estate column. She also wrote both a real estate and personal money column for Inside Magazine, which is published by The Jewish Exponent.

“Up in Rockland, I’ve watched the media landscape turn into a desert,” said Traster in an email to Talking Biz News. “There is little to no business coverage. While other surrounding suburban counties do have business publications, Rockland lacked one. I decided to fill that gap.”

Traster has been reporting most of the articles on the website now, but it is also running columns and think pieces from experts in several fields.

“By next year, I will be looking for freelance journalists,” said Traster.
