NY Times hires WSJ’s LaVallee

Pamela Paul, editor of the Book Review at The New York Times, sent out the following announcement on Monday:

The Books desk is delighted to announce that Andrew LaVallee will be joining The Times as our next senior editor for news and features.

Andrew comes to us from The Wall Street Journal, where he was most recently the arts editor, overseeing books and culture coverage. He is a 13-year veteran of The Journal, where he has had a range of roles, beginning as a technology reporter, and then working in Hong Kong as a special projects editor and as life and style editor. He has also been deputy bureau chief for its Greater New York section and deputy bureau chief for corporate news. A graduate of Oberlin College, Andrew also has a master’s in journalism from Columbia, and got his start in journalism at The Patriot Ledger in Quincy, Mass.

Andrew will be joining us later this month. Please join us in welcoming him to The Times.
