PulitzerThe 2018 Pulitzer Prize winners contained no business journalism after there were two business journalism-related winners in 2017.

There were two finalists that were business journalism related. There were also two business journalism finalists last year.

Caveat: The work done by New York Times media reporter Emily Steel on Fox News anchor Bill O’Reilly’s sexual harassment was listed as part of the Times’ win in the public service category.

But the two main reporters on the work listed — Megan Twohey and Jodi Kantor — are not business news desk reporters, though their work was on workplace sexual harassment. Some would argue that work constitutes business journalism.

Brett Murphy of USA Today Network was a finalist in the national reporting category. There was no winner named in this category.

The judges recognized Murphy “For a graceful, data-driven narrative populated by the truckers who transport goods from America’s ports — spirited characters exploited by some of the country’s largest and best-known companies.”

Steve Lopez of Los Angeles Times was a finalist in the commentary category.

The judges recognized Lopez “for graceful columns rich in detail that vividly illustrated how the crippling cost of housing in California is becoming an existential crisis for the state.”

All of the winners and finalists can be found here.
