Quartz executive editor Xana Antunes sent out the following announcement internally Tuesday morning:
Mike Murphy has been promoted to deputy tech editor, effective immediately.
Mike has taken a path that we’re particularly proud of. He joined Quartz as an intern nearly four years ago and has grown into one of our strongest and most prolific voices, from his incisive views on all things Apple to his introspective work on the Machines With Brains project. He’s an ace Things-spotter, top notch framer, and above-average hoverboard driver (sadly no link for this). Mike brings smarts and fun to his coverage. And terrible jokes.
In his new role, Mike will help guide our tech news coverage and continue writing on the major consumer electronics companies like Apple and Samsung, as well as the occasional rogue robot.
Daniel Wolfe is joining Quartz as a reporter on the Things team. Daniel comes to us from Planet—the satellite company you might have read about—where he conducted analyses and created visualizations using the company’s data. Often, that work would end up in the hands of other publications. Fluent in Japanese, Daniel helps run the Oakland CreativeMornings, and also doodles and cartoons. He starts June 18 and will be based in the San Francisco office. Follow him on Twitter at @sadbumblebee.
