Illinois paper cuts printed stock listings
The Springfield State Journal-Register is eliminating its printed stock listings in its business section, writes executive editor Angie Muhs.
Muhs writes, “In some cases, we conclude that most of our audience is accessing information or a service via means other than the printed page.
“That day has come for the daily stock listings in the business section. Effective Tuesday, we’ll be dropping the daily listings, but adding a Sunday stocks page that will recap the week.
“In today’s digital world, where up-to-date information is critical, most people who are serious investors rely on the internet for their information about stocks’ and funds’ performance. We’ve concluded our resources are better spent on the longer view, weekly recap.
“At our last Reader Advisory Board meeting, I asked its members how many of them read the printed stocks daily. Only two said they occasionally glanced at them, but didn’t use them regularly. One member questioned why we hadn’t dropped the listings before now.”
