Jason Anders, chief news editor at The Wall Street Journal, sent out the following announcement:

All,

I’m delighted to announce that Darren Everson is named Deputy Chief News Editor of The Wall Street Journal.

Darren is a relentless and creative advocate for our digital audience, and will bring that passion to the senior team in the center of the Hub as we direct coverage for the day and beyond. He is already well known for his leadership on our digital platforms team where, among many other accomplishments, he has been instrumental in refining our approach to breaking news and making sure that our online readers get the vital news they need before anyone else. Darren will maintain a focus on breaking news as my deputy, working with our coverage chiefs and bureaus to drive and deliver an indispensable daily report first and without peer. He’ll work closely with deputies Phil Izzo in New York and Gráinne McCarthy in London, as well as with Planning Chief Elena Cherney on news to come and our platforms and publishing teams to ensure our readers are well served wherever they consume our journalism.

Before joining the Hub, Darren was editor of Global Journal, leading the group that produced the Asia and Europe print editions of The Wall Street Journal. He previously was one of the original members of the Journal’s sports department, where he later became deputy. He joined the Journal in 2006 as a reporter covering the business of travel.

Before coming to the Journal, Darren was a sports reporter at the Daily News and New York Post. He began his journalism career, as I did, in Fort Wayne, Ind., where he worked at the Journal Gazette (while I toiled at the local rival — we have buried the hatchet). Darren is a Michigan native and University of Michigan graduate, and once his wrist heals, he plans to help return the New York Media Softball League Trophy to 1211. Darren and his fiancee, sports reporter Rachel Bachman, live in Brooklyn Heights.

Please join me in congratulating Darren.
