Dow Jones realigns breaking news

The following announcement was sent out Friday by Dow Jones Newswires managing editor Linda Fung:

“I’m pleased to announce that Andrew Dowell is taking on an exciting new role as we combine many of our equities-related breaking news functions under one editor leading the effort to produce faster and smarter coverage of important news developments. Dow Jones NewswiresAndrew will be the main coordinator between Dow Jones Newswires and The Wall Street Journal franchise, working closely with editors and bureau chiefs at both to make sure this coverage is put to the fullest use throughout Dow Jones. As part of my management team, Andrew will continue to contribute to the overall editorial strategy of the news service. He will remain a deputy managing editor and will continue reporting to me.

For the past two years, he had broad responsibility for the equities reporting staff and was responsible for the financial services reporting group, where we have seen unprecedented changes in the industry. Prior to that, he served as managing editor for energy for three years. Before that, Andrew was news editor for energy, during which time he helped lead our coverage of the California power crisis, the Enron meltdown and power-sector bankruptcies. He also spent two years working for Dow Jones Newswires in Cairo.
