Tracy Corrigan, the editor of The Wall Street Journal Europe, made the following staff announcements on Monday:
I’m delighted to announce a series of editorial appointments, designed to strengthen our regional news operation in Europe and give additional impetus to our continuing online expansion.
Neil McIntosh is appointed deputy editor of The Wall Street Journal Europe, with responsibility for print and online editions. He will remain closely involved in the strategic development of the digital operation and I believe that his extensive experience and considerable skill in all things digital will ensure our continuing success, as we embark on a number of exciting new projects.
Neil joined the Journal as launch editor of europe.WSJ.com in January 2009. Under his leadership, the European site has added a string of innovative features and platforms and registered rapid traffic growth. Neil was previously head of editorial development at guardian.co.uk, and was a technology reporter and editor at the Guardian newspaper during the dotcom boom and bust. He started his career at the Edinburgh Evening News in the mid-1990s.
Jennifer Hicks will succeed Neil as editor of the European website and will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the site. Her strong news judgment and keen eye will ensure that the site is lively and fresh throughout the European day, as we further broaden and deepen our content. Jennifer has been news editor of the Europe.WSJ.com since August 2009. Before moving to London, she helped manage the WSJ.com evening desk in New York, having first joined the Journal as an online news assistant in 2004. She is a Knight New Media fellow and has worked as an adjunct professor at Columbia and CUNY journalism schools.
In addition, Parminder Bahra will take on a new role as executive producer of europe.WSJ.com, with responsibility for all video editing and production, as well as our social media strategy. Video is an exciting new area for us and Parminder’s expertise in digital video – built up both at The Times and through his own production company, Six Oranges – will be vitally important as we develop this area of WSJ Europe’s journalism. Currently deputy editor of the site, Parminder joined The Wall Street Journal last year having previously held writing and management positions at The Times, Times Online and the Financial Times.
All positions are effective September 1.
