Tyler CowenTyler Cowen has joined Bloomberg View as a staff columnist where he will write regularly about economics and policy.

In his debut column, Cowen writes that historical research shows Turkey’s economy isn’t likely to be affected much by the military uprising.

Cowen is an author, an economics professor at George Mason University and is the director of the Mercatus Center, an economics and policy research organization based on the George Mason campus.

“Tyler Cowen is one of the world’s most imaginative and influential economists, and we welcome him to our team,” said David Shipley, Bloomberg View’s senior executive editor, in a statement.

“Bloomberg View has become a must read among my colleagues in business and economics, and I hope to help expand that audience by taking a counter-intuitive look at global economics,” said Cowen.

Cowen earned a Ph.d. in economics from Harvard University in 1987. An Economist poll recently named him one of the most influential economists of the last decade and Bloomberg Businessweek dubbed him “America’s Hottest Economist.” Foreign Policy magazine named him as one of its “Top 100 Global Thinkers” of 2011.

He co-writes a blog at www.marginalrevolution.com and he recently launched an on-line economics education project, MRUniversity.com. His next book, “The Complacent Class: The Self-Defeating Quest for the American Dream,” will be published by St. Martin’s Press in February.
