Bloomberg News reporter Michael Sasso, who has been covering the airline industry out of the Atlanta bureau, has a new beat focused on the economy.
The beat is called “Barometers” and Sasso’s objective is to find under-the-radar economic indicators in company news and from other sources.
Many — but not all — of his examples will come from the Southeast but will have national or global implications. For instance, he did a story about how Amazon and other e-commerce warehouses are significantly driving up wages across rural America; he set the story in a county in Georgia.
Sasso joined Bloomberg in March 2014 writing breaking news and enterprise articles about U.S. airlines including Delta and United, as well as UPS.
He previously spent 11 years at the Tampa Tribune as a reporter and also worked at the Lakeland Ledger.
