Stephanie Flanders, senior executive editor of economics coverage at Bloomberg, sent out the following announcement on Monday:
We are delighted to announce that Margaret Collins will succeed Brendan Murray as the US Economy Managing Editor.
Peggy has led the U.S. Investing Team since 2016, expanding its remit to include coverage of private equity, endowments and pensions on top of hedge funds and mutual funds. As well as covering one of the most critical beats at Bloomberg, her 16-strong team also produced the popular “future of investing” series and delivers the weekly radio show “Bloomberg Finance.”
Before becoming leader of the team, Peggy was a reporter on it. She developed the newsroom’s first family office beat and covered personal finance with a focus on taxes, wealth and retirement-savings policy.
Peggy joined Bloomberg in 2009 and was previously a multimedia editor for MSN.com, where her team won a Loeb award, and a reporter for the Bergen Record newspaper in New Jersey.
Exact timings are still being worked out but we’re hopeful that Peggy will be able to replace Brendan in Washington within weeks of his departure for London in late April to become global trade tsar.
In addition we have decided to make Scott Lanman the team’s Deputy Managing Editor, reflecting his importance and contributions to the team he joined in 2005. He will continue to oversee coverage of U.S. economic indicators and serve as executive producer of the new “Stephanomics” podcast. There will be no change to the current reporting lines for either the indicators or the Federal Reserve team but Scott will play a bigger role in how we cover the Fed and will stand in for Peggy when she is away.
Policy team leader Sarah McGregor‘s role is also changing. In a few months, she’ll be an editor based in Los Angeles, where she’ll be a bridge for trade coverage between the U.S. and Asia, help with late-day enterprise and spot news, and add a West Coast perspective to our reporting. The policy team will henceforth report to Peggy and Brendan.
Thanks
