The Wall Street Journal announced Friday the hiring of Sarah Ball as digital director of WSJ. Magazine.
She starts Aug. 6.
Ball will oversee all digital content at WSJ. Magazine, the Journal’s monthly luxury lifestyle magazine, and lead an expanded team of digital editors. Ball most recently served as the editorial director of GQ magazine, where she was initially hired as a senior editor in 2014.
In her senior leadership position at GQ, Ball helped drive the magazine’s editorial vision and was instrumental in shaping its print and digital editions. At WSJ. Magazine she will lead a new digital team to produce daily content with a greater emphasis on video and multimedia.
“As the Journal continues to refine its digital-first strategy, the appointment of Sarah is a major step forward in the magazine’s evolution,” says Kristina O’Neill, editor in chief of WSJ. Magazine. “We want to entice our readers into a daily conversation. Sarah is a seasoned journalist with years of experience in both the print and digital worlds, and an instinctive grasp of how magazine content takes flight online. I can’t wait to see how the site will grow under her watch.”
WSJ. Magazine launched in September 2008 as a quarterly publication and now appears monthly as part of the weekend edition of The Journal.
