Aisha Harris has been named culture editor of the op-ed section at the New York Times.

Harris came to The Times after six years at Slate magazine, where she was a culture writer and editor. She also hosted a podcast, “Represent,” on which she discussed inclusivity in film and television.

At The Times, she has been the assistant TV editor, working with critics, staff writers and freelancers, as well as writing her own pieces.

Elsewhere, she’s contributed to The Dissolve, Marie Claire Italy, and has been seen and heard as a guest on NPR, BBC, CBC, MSNBC, NBC, CNN, WNYC, and PBS. She’s also been featured as a panelist and moderator at events like SXSW, Comic Con San Diego, and more.

She is an alumnus of Northwestern University and New York University with degrees in theatre and cinema studies.

In Op-Ed, Harris will lead and expand cultural coverage. She’ll be introducing Times readers to a bevy of new voices but also guiding us across the broad cultural landscape in her own writing.

She starts on Sept. 23.
