The Wall Street Journal seeks a news editor for the World News Desk in New York to specialize in working with our bureaus in the Middle East on news and feature stories to help ensure we are competitive online and on wires both in speed and substance, and distinctive in our depth and our choices of stories.

This person would help select what’s worthy of our reporters’ and readers’ attention and time in a complex region with many news demands, and help ensure top-notch execution wherever we choose to spend our resources — sometimes performing rewrite as well as editing. The person also would edit stories from other regions of the world as necessary.

Direct experience in the region, especially directing reporters or editors, is a major plus for this job. So is experience with delivering real-time spot news on intraday deadlines while pursuing longer-term features, analysis and enterprise stories. Experience with economic reporting also is preferred.

Applications should include a resume and cover letter.
