WSJ seeks investigative data reporter

The Wall Street Journal is seeking an experienced data reporter based in Washington, D.C. This person will contribute reporting and dataanalysis to enterprise projects and daily coverage, with an emphasis on economics, demographics and campaign finance.

Working with data should be second nature to this person, who will be expected to immerse herself or himself in short-, medium- and long-term stories at one of the largest news organizations in the world. This person should be excited to battle FOIA officers, scrape poorly formed websites and write computer code that ferrets out fraud.

Experience mining a variety of economic and demographic data sources, including records produced by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, U.S. Census and Federal Reserve is a requirement. Working knowledge of daily FEC reports, lobbying forms and IRS 527 data is a plus.

This job requires the ability to analyze millions (or billions) of rows of data, as well as technical proficiency in at least one programming language.
