WSJ seeks Gears & Gadgets editor

WSJ 2017The Gear & Gadgets editor of Off Duty is responsible for the section’s coverage of technology, outdoor gear and automobiles on all our platforms including mobile, desktop and the weekly print edition.

The coverage area is broad—everything from the latest high-end headphones to electric bikes to space tourism. He or she generates story ideas that contextualize the latest technological developments in a smart, helpful, journalistic way for readers.

The editor plans line-ups and assigns stories to staff writers or freelancers, and edits all stories to assure they fit Off Duty’s service-oriented agenda and the journalistic and ethical standards of The Wall Street Journal, and ushers stories through the proofing and fact-checking process. He or she works closely with art directors and photo editors.

This position calls for an individual with at least 3-5 years senior-level experience in both print and digital editorial; the ideal candidate will bring to the job a deep understanding of current tech, gadgets and trends in outdoor gear, a sophisticated taste level, original packaging and conceptual instincts, a lively sense of humor, top-notch editing and writing skills and digital savvy.

Experience crafting social-media strategy, SEO-friendly display, overseeing videos and conceiving interactive editorial a plus.
