WSJ 2017The Wall Street Journal is seeking a seasoned news leader to direct finance coverage in London. The Europe Finance Editor oversees a team of reporters and editors at the center of the world’s financial capital. This key deputy to the Finance Coverage Chief works closely with colleagues in the U.S. and Asia to coordinate global coverage of markets and finance.

The London-based finance group does the full gamut of Wall Street Journal journalism: Fast news, analysis and commentary about global financial markets; boots-on-the-ground reporting at the intersection of economics and markets; close, news-breaking coverage of the region’s major banks; sophisticated interactive graphics that distill volumes of statistical data; intellectually ambitious explanatory long-form journalism, informative video reporting, and complex investigative projects across industries and countries.

The group’s coverage area includes the major global financial markets, oil and commodity markets, banks, hedge funds, private-equity shops, sovereign-wealth funds, mergers and acquisitions, and more. Its footprint is Europe, the Middle East and Africa, and a vital part of the mission is preparing U.S. readers during early hours for the market open in New York.

What do we want in a leader? An experienced journalist with a keen story sense, an ability to expertly edit and conceptualize coverage, an enthusiasm for and knowledge of markets and finance, a gift for motivating a team and the judgment and experience to supervise and direct sensitive projects.
