Washington Business Journal seeks designer

Washington Business Journal is looking for a versatile designer to fill a key role in its Creative Services team. This position will work on both the editorial design of the weekly newspaper (with a recent redesign by renowned design consultant Mario Garcia) and the marketing design for the Business Journal’s signature events.

It is  located in Arlington, Va., just across the Potomac River from Washington DC.

The designer will maintain high standards for visual storytelling throughout the newspaper, with a keen eye for presentation, photography, typography and graphics. Will participate in story planning sessions and budget meetings and will contribute creative ideas to illustrate difficult, conceptual stories. Will assist with photo research and assignments. Will create compelling informational graphics and maps. Will be responsible for some production and pre-press duties including photo color correction. Will work with fellow designers on marketing and advertising campaigns, including print ads, digital ads, email newsletters and other collateral, from conception to execution.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelors degree
Experience: Three to five years design experience.
Additional: Mac OS X and the Adobe Creative Suite (we use CS5). Illustration skills are a big plus, as are copy editing, headline writing, informational graphic skills and HTML/CSS.
