Undercurrent News seeks reporter

June 10, 2014

Posted by Chris Roush

Undercurrent News, a fast-growing online business news startup, is looking for an experienced reporter in the U.S. with a track record of breaking news to expand our coverage.

Our company was founded by reporters and is totally editorially driven, which is a unique environment to work in today. We take great pride in our independent and unparalleled coverage. Not only do we break news, we strive to make sense of it and to develop stories that are interesting, informative and just plain fun to read.

Our subject is the seafood sector, but industry knowledge would be a bonus to us, rather than a necessity.

We are looking for a reporter seeking a second or third job in their career who has a hunger for exclusives, a strong news sense and the ability to write on various business topics. As with any journalism job, curiosity about topics and developments impacting our readers is paramount.

Our most read stories relate to M&A activity, pricing and market trend reports and insight into the key players in the sector.

You need to have business reporting experience, be a self-starter and able to produce clean copy. Some editing skills are also required.

Unlike many industries, the seafood sector remains a relatively untapped — but increasingly important — niche, where information can be hard to obtain. This is therefore a unique opportunity for those interested in enterprise journalism rather than regurgitating press releases.

The seafood sector is a global business, so international and North America travel will be required. Another language, especially Spanish, would be a plus, and interest in international issues is a must.

Please send a cover letter, resume and three samples of business news you have broken to directors@undercurrentnews.com.
