The Democrat and Chronicle is seeking a talented journalist to fill the position of innovation/entrepreneurship reporter.

The D&C is a dynamic media organization and the leader in delivering engaging news, information and watchdog journalism in Rochester, N.Y.

This reporter aggressively covers innovation and entrepreneurship in our community by uncovering developments at companies large and small, the latest local patents, the collegiate research industry, emerging jobs, and trends in gadgets and technology. Story threads are not limited to the world of business. Content should be highly local, with an emphasis on making technical stories engaging for our key audiences. Watchdog journalism will also be part of the mix.

The successful candidate will produce a variety of videos, stories and blogs — from brief items to in-depth enterprise — and cover breaking news as warranted. The reporter will engage readers and digital users through social media, digital chats and community events and become the community’s leading voice on innovation and entrepreneurship.

Requirements for this position include exceptional cross-platform storytelling and advanced social media skills with a proven track record of self-motivation and self-direction. Candidates should have five years of experience and a bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism or the equivalent in experience and education.
