Reuters LogoReuters News is seeking an experienced business journalist to join our technology reporting team in San Francisco.

The primary focus of this position is to cover Alphabet Inc. in all its dimensions, from its product and business performance to its broader role in shaping our lives and culture.

Few companies exert as profound an influence on the world as Google and its sister companies, and this is a great opportunity for a competitive reporter to make a mark covering the people, the technology, the business challenges and the political and social dynamics shaping both Alphabet and the broader tech industry.

Cybersecurity, antitrust policy, internet free speech and content regulation, privacy, and the evolution of online advertising and media are just a few of the big themes that are a part of the Alphabet beat. Flying cars, drones, robots and artificial intelligence are part of it too.The role involves a mix of straight news and initiative stories, with a strong emphasis on stories that break important news or provide unique information and insight.

While there is considerable back-up for covering day-to-day news, this reporter would be expected to take the lead on major stories and shape distinctive Google coverage that sets Reuters apart.

At times the job will involve ranging beyond Alphabet and Google to cover other aspects of tech as well. It will also involve frequent collaboration with colleagues in San Francisco, New York, Washington, Beijing, London, Brussels and elsewhere, as we employ our global reach to tell the tech story with both breadth and depth.

The ideal applicant will be an aggressive business reporter who loves a good story and knows how to dig. Experience covering the technology business and a deep Rolodex of sources would be major assets.

The ability to write quickly and accurately under deadline pressure is essential, as is the ability to develop and nurture sources that can inform longer-term initiative reporting. Familiarity with contemporary social media and multimedia tools and the ability to work well with others in a highly collaborative environment are also required.
