Reuters seeks Oslo bureau chief

May 6, 2015

Posted by Chris Roush

Reuters is looking for a dynamic reporter and writer to lead coverage out of Norway.

Norway has built Western Europe’s biggest energy sector and its $880 billion wealth fund from its oil savings now owns more than 1 percent of global shares. Outside the EU, it has an independent central bank, a liquid currency and stock market with plenty of cash and a unique focus on offshore energy.

Norway also has a string of semi-state owned national champions like Statoil, Telenor and Yara, who have grown into global players, taking on some of the biggest private sector firms across the globe. All this requires an all-round reporter who can cover stories from the mundane, like natural gas outages, to more complex issues like a highly independent monetary policy, corporate news and big-ticket oil stories.

With a Norwegian heading NATO and rising tensions with Russia and geo-political questions over the future of Arctic, the bureau will also regularly have to tackle global general news stories. We need a driven performer with a strong record of teamwork, an ability to plan ahead and identify stories ahead of the curve as well as motivate colleagues. Strong news editing, snapping and copy editing skills are a must, as well as a passion for telling business and energy stories.

Skills and Qualifications:
– Profound experience in journalism
– Strong track record as an editorial manager a big plus
– Excellent writing skills, news judgment and record of contact building/breaking news
– Proven ability to deliver longer-form stories with deep reporting
– Fast and accurate in whatever you do
– Solid understanding of legal risks and strong ethics
– Experience working with local language services a plus
