Reuters seeks a reporter to cover local finance to be based in New York.

The job requires the person to research and write detailed stories for a global readership which covers all aspects of local finance in New York, Puerto Rico and Connecticut and other states as required.

Research and report on credit markets, including the municipal bond market. Use financial software to collect and analyze related facts and figures in order to report and write specific stories on stock market movements, describing trends and their drivers as they relate to the wider international market.

Cover political stories as they pertain to markets, i.e., budgets, pensions and bond issues. Evaluate news leads and tips in order to develop compelling story ideas. Create and maintain contacts within the tight-knit financial community and use those sources to uncover major unreported stories and presenting those stories to a global financial audience.

Maintain and coordinate a network of stringers. Edit copy from stringers to company standards. Attend and report on key conferences and other major industry events. Occasional coverage of general news stories in coverage area.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, Literature or a related field plus 4 years of progressive experience as a correspondent or reporter.

Experience reporting on financial and economic data and reports and covering the economy, emerging markets, financial markets and politics.

Requires reporting on equities, macroeconomic news and experience maintaining and coordinating a network of stringers.
