Reuters seeks energy correspondent in Dubai

Reuters is looking for a top flight reporter with excellent contacts and bags of initiative to lead one of the most enticing stories on the EMEA file.

Our Senior Middle East Energy Correspondent will sit at the heart of oil cartel OPEC’s policy and Iran’s re-emergence post-sanctions as a presence on global oil markets, plus the knock on effect for the Gulf’s energy powers. The correspondent will also be at the vanguard of Iraq’s attempt to ramp up oil production as the country tries to gain some semblance of normality more than a decade after conflict.

They’ll also stay on top of oil-super power Saudi Arabia and the fate of its aging leadership. The reporter will also concentrate on the strategic relationships between the region and the West, mainly the United States with its fast-growing Shale oil output due to eclipse Saudi, plus moves to deepen political and commercial relationships with energy-hungry Asia.

Key duties include:

  • Coordinating coverage of Gulf OPEC producers, leading by example to break stories on OPEC energy policy, write/edit and generate analysis ideas about shifts in Gulf oil strategy and the narrative of OPEC’s interactions with other major global energy producers and consumers.
  • Interviewing major policy makers as well as oil executives from major companies working in the region.
  • Coordinating coverage with other major centers and energy editors in Asia, Europe and the United States.
  • Suggesting and anchoring multi-media, enterprise/investigative story ideas.
  • Encouraging and anchoring discussions and Q+As about energy policy in the Middle East on the Reuters oil forum.

Qualifications

Extensive knowledge of energy markets and the Gulf region Exceptional lead-writing/interviewing skills and sharp news judgment. Ability to alert and file quickly and efficiently from the field. Broad knowledge of international energy policy backdrop and geo-political issues that have a market impact Excellent contact book full of sources to break key news with Willingness to write right across the file from quick-fire spot news to deeper insightful pieces Experience of managing a small team.
