Reuters seeks editor to run Americas desk

Reuters LogoReuters is looking for a dynamic editor to join the Americas Desk to help elevate our editing of corporate and financial stories for investors.

This editor will manage a team of deskers and work closely with bureaus to produce stories that help portfolio managers, wealth managers, fund managers and other investors make smarter investment decisions.

The ideal candidate will have a strong grasp of business news and financial markets, superb writing and editing skills, the ability to deftly weave in context for a global audience, and write headlines and lead paragraphs that grab attention. She or he must be able to work well with reporters, editors and Top News to shape and improve storylines.

We are looking for a motivated newsroom leader who believes that desking is active, collaborative and can make a difference. A strong desk has always been central to upholding Reuters’ standards and quality, and the successful candidate will be a champion of these standards. We want an experienced journalist who can help develop other deskers, as well as tap our deep well of specialist knowledge to serve both financial readers and media clients.

While a big focus of this job will be corporate news, the ideal candidate will have the versatility to handle stories of all stripes, including political, general, economic, market and commodities news. As we look to improve and expand our multimedia offerings, this job requires the ability to think across the whole breadth of Reuters, from pictures to graphics to video to text.

Qualifications:
At least 10 years of journalism experience in a broad range of areas including corporate or financial news
Excellent writing and copy editing skills; ability to shape a story by asking smart questions and challenging premises
Strong leadership and people management skills
Ability to act calmly under pressure, make quick and sound decisions in a fast-paced environment
