Reuters seeks commodities reporter in New York

Reuters is seeking a driven, dynamic reporter to take the hot seat in New York commodities market reporting – in a newly created role that will be one of the most crucial and fast paced jobs on the team.

The successful candidate will oversee our price reporting of New York-traded commodities, from crude oil, to sugar to copper.

he reporter will spot wild and weird moves in the market on anything from prices, volumes, volatility to spreads, find the news behind the numbers on trading screens and write sharp, real-time headlines and briefs explaining to our readers – and even the most savvy professional traders – succinctly and quickly complex trading strategies.

The reporter will need to build deep sources and expert insight into the market. The role will go deeply in complex futures and options markets to set the agenda for our daily market coverage, supporting the broader team, and spotting longer-term trends on investment and dealing in commodities.

Qualifications

A proven track record developing deep sources and breaking exclusive news
Willingness to relentlessly pursue scoops of fact and insight in an opaque, secretive industry
Commodities and energy market expertise preferable but not required
Expertise in futures and derivatives markets preferable but not required
Strong writing, with an ability to clearly explain technical subjects to a financially sophisticated audience
Proven ability to work closely and collaboratively as part of a diverse, driven team spanning multiple regions
Minimum 3 years journalism experience or degree
