North Dakota paper seeks business reporter

Grand Forks HeraldThe Grand Forks Herald newspaper in North Dakota is seeking to hire a business reporter.

DESCRIPTION
Receive assignments and develop own ideas into relevant, well-written news and feature stories.
Organize materials, determine focus and write stories according to prescribed editorial style and format standards for the newspaper, website and social media.
Demonstrate a digital-first mindset with quick files, video and online features.
Work independently to identify storytelling opportunities and plan coverage with news editors for a mix of daily and enterprise reporting.
Develop, nurture and maintain network of sources.
Gather, verify and provide information for stories through interviews, observation and research.
Respond to breaking news and be able to write on deadline from breaking news events.
Collaborate with all newsroom teams to ensure stories are presented to readers in most effective way possible.
Other duties as assigned.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education in journalism and experience in a professional newsroom is preferred. Exceptional recent graduates will be considered.
Strong organizational, time management and people skills are essential.
Flexibility is required. Ability to write with confidence on multiple topics.
Ability to work on deadline, handle sensitive and emotional situations, balance competing demands, set priorities and juggle several issues at once.
Photography skills a plus.
Ability to shoot video or willingness to learn
Accuracy and ability to write clean, crisp copy in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.
Must have a valid driver’s license with a driving record that is insurable by the company.
Work hours include occasional nights, weekends and holidays.
