NerdWallet seeks copy desk chief

NerdWallet is looking for a strong manager to lead a high-quality team of copy editors, further grow the team and help us build a world-class company. This job is based in San Francisco and pays six figures.

We’ve held this job open for months, looking for the right person — a top-notch editor who can offer solid feedback; a strong manager who inspires, and guides career development; a leader who can earn the respect of colleagues companywide (analytics, business units, data, design, engineering, graphics, etc.) and work effectively with them; someone who can work the room when it comes to recruiting. We’ve held out for the full package despite countless job applicants.

NerdWallet has grown strategically since 2009. We’re privately held and profitable. Every Nerd also receives stock options. We offer robust benefits and more.

We cover all areas of personal finance. For example, we see college grads crushed by debt, people bankrupted by medical bills, homebuyers unknowingly overpaying by thousands for mortgages, and we want to help others avoid falling into the same situations.

We produce content for our site and partners, including outlets such as Money.com, USA Today and U.S. News & World Report.

Our content is solid now, but we’re working toward becoming best in class. We know that quality content is a long-term investment. We’ve built a network-class video studio, for instance. We now have 50+ staff writers and editors on our content team. Our latest wave of hires includes journalists who’ve worked at Bloomberg, CNN, the LA Times, MarketWatch, MSN, MSN Money, USA Today and The Washington Post.

Our copy chief must edit at least as well as our copy editors, who’ve specialized in copy editing for years. Grammar, style and spelling are basic hygiene. We expect all of our copy editors to do whatever it takes to help produce accurate, compelling, concise, conversational content. That includes working directly with assigning editors, reporters and graphic artists to resolve any problems.
