The Kansas City Business Journal is looking for a reporter to cover the technology and entrepreneurism beats. See why Google picked Kansas City for its first gigabit network — and what it spurred. Report on Kansas City’s progress as it works toward a goal of becoming the nation’s most entrepreneurial city. Join a newsroom dedicated to breaking news online and in social media and exploring and explaining its significance in print.

Duties:

Reporters are expected to build source networks that allow them access to top players and to beat the competition to the news. Reporters must be able to report breaking news online and develop stories for print. They also are expected to use social media platforms to aid in reporting and gaining visibility in the community.

Skills:

• Demonstrated ability to cover a beat, build a source network and cover complex topics.
• Able to adjust writing style to fit online, print and social media platforms.
• A competitive streak rivaled only by strong intellectual curiosity.
• Able to take individual initiative, yet work as part of a team.

Experience:

At least two years of professional reporting experience desired, but will consider entry-level candidates with strong internship and school experience.
