International Biz Times seeks breaking news editor

The International Business Times is seeking a breaking news editor who can lead our coverage of the latest news from around the world and keep us ahead of our competitors.

This position require a news addict who is addicted to their Twitter feed, has strong news judgment, can effectively motivate and assign a team of 12-15 breaking news reporters and has the ability to work cooperatively with other editors. The editor should excel at breaking news in real time as well as possess a proven ability to deliver web traffic through an innate understanding of what type of stories go viral.

The editor reports directly to the Editor in Chief and the Managing Editor. The job is based in New York, N.Y. and candidates must be currently living in the NYC Metro Area.

Desired Skills & Experience

The ideal candidate will have several years of experience with editorial production, and have some understanding of web publishing. Interest and experience in digital news is a plus.

• A bachelor’s degree in English, communications, media, marketing, or other related field

• At least several years of reporting experience required

• Proven ability to break important news

• Understanding of trending topics across all news verticals

• Ability to write multiple stories throughout the day under tight deadlines

• High standards of editorial integrity

• Highly organized, accurate, and detail-oriented with speed and accuracy

• Openness to a dynamic schedule

• Exposure to Photoshop and image editing

• Knowledge of basic HTML

• Keen understanding of SEO and social media
