Dow Jones/WSJ seek editor for spot news team

Dow Jones NewswiresDow Jones Newswires and The Wall Street Journal seek an experienced editor to lead a breaking news reporting team.

The person in this position will oversee a group of reporters focused on corporate disclosure news, quickly and expertly producing articles primarily for Dow Jones Newswires and as needed for WSJ.com.

Working in close collaboration with newsroom senior editors and bureau chiefs, the spot news desk head will set priorities, assign and edit articles produced by the desk. Items covered by the spot news team include earnings, executive changes, strategy announcements and other news disclosed by companies via press release and/or SEC filings.

The team also reports on significant stock price movements and other breaking news related to business, finance and economics. Candidates for this position must have superb news judgement, top-notch editing prowess and strong communication skills. Experience covering corporate news, including the ability to quickly decipher news in earnings statements and balance sheets, is critical.

Previous reporting and editing experience in a breaking news environment is essential, and experience as a manager is helpful. An ability to lead and inspire a team of reporters is absolutely necessary, as is an ability to work effectively with editors across the newsroom.
