Dow Jones Newswires seeks two assistant news editors in Barcelona
The Barcelona copy desk seeks two assistant news editors to help run and manage a team of editors focused on real-time corporate disclosure.
The assistant news editors will ensure that copy filed by a team of multi-lingual news writers is handled accurately and speedily for publication primarily on Dow Jones Newswires. They will ensure that copy editors are fully conversant with relevant publishing systems, in particular news station, and that systems are up-to-date and functional at all times.
The people in this role will act as the main point of contact for the Barcelona copy desk. A crucial part of the role will be efficient and regular communication with the London digital hub, in real time, over breaking news that rises to the level for inclusion on WSJ.com and other platforms. Forward planning with the London hub and in conjunction with relevant beat chiefs, bureau chiefs and other stakeholders will be essential.
The position requires excellent news judgment, an in-depth knowledge of how the various Dow Jones publishing platforms work, including a very good handle on coding and its importance to Dow Jones’s professional products, a methodical approach in dealing with pressure and strong administration skills.
The role will require flexibility, the ability to innovate and adapt to the current and future needs of the business.
Strong knowledge of the European corporate sector is a distinct advantage.
The person will also be responsible for producing weekly staffing skeds, as well as handling the management of team holiday requests, undertaking performance reviews and hiring for the copy desk.
Over time, the person would be expected to be fully conversant with systems such as translation software, and for checking its accuracy.
The position reports to the News Editor in charge of real-time news operations in Barcelona.
