The Dallas Business Journal is seeking a managing editor to run the day-to-day-operation of its newsroom.

If you get excited about directing coverage of everything from Ebola outbreaks and public official corruption to the daily activities of 18 Fortune 500 companies, we want to hear from you. If you think you can make an already high-performing staff better, we want to hear from you.

We’re a 24/7 digital newsroom with a once-a-week print publication that aims to put news in perspective and deliver a lean back experience unrivaled in our market. As the newsroom’s most hands-on manager and coach of reporters, the managing editor is charged with bringing ideas, inspiration, and constant guidance to our reporters and editors. The managing editor actively oversees and directs the deployment of resources across many publishing platforms – online, mobile, email, print, social – hour by hour, minute by minute.

The managing editor must possess a solid news sense, an ability to make snap judgments about the proper treatment of stories, and a high level of confidence in orchestrating the many simultaneous actions of editorial team members. Keen organizational skills are a must, as the managing editor is responsible for the efficiency of the news gathering and news production operation. The managing editor also must possess superb mentoring and communication skills in working with people of varying skill levels and personalities.

Business journalism experience is preferred, as is 3 to 5 years of managing or leading an editorial team. We’re also looking for someone who is comfortable operating in a rapidly changing media environment, who appreciates the growing importance of digital platforms and who holds a healthy respect for the traditions of print journalism.

We are looking to fill this position expeditiously so your resume and work samples should be emailed as soon as possible to Editor-in-Chief Paul O’Donnell at podonnell@bizjournals.com
