Crain’s Chicago Business is looking for an experienced reporter who can write analytical and enterprising news stories, features and special reports for our weekly issue as well as break news on our fast-growing website.

The reporter also would write for our popular On Dining blog and produce a monthly video report. In other words, we want a reporter whose work will be noticed.

The beat encompasses some of the biggest brand names in America: McDonald’s, Kraft Foods, Mondelez and MillerCoors. In addition, the beat requires a foodie’s interest in Chicago’s world-class and dynamic restaurant scene.

The candidate should be adept at developing sources and sensing news and spotting trends before the competition. He or she should also be a fluid writer. We want someone who is a self-starter and prefer someone who knows Chicago business. Specifically we want someone who will:

• Generate story ideas and identify trends in food and beverage consumption and marketing
• Break news and beat the competition
• Report and write for print and web, juggling multiple deadlines simultaneously
• Develop deep contact lists and sourcing at the companies covered
• Become an established expert
• Play well with others, collaborate in reporting teams
• Bring energy and enthusiasm to the newsroom
• Occasionally tackle story ideas off the assigned beat
• Use social media to engage and grow audiences
• Produce multimedia reports
• Appear on television reports and in-person events
