Comstock’s seeks new editor

Comstock’s magazine, named Best Business Magazine and Best Consumer Web Publication by the Western Publishing Association, seeks an experienced and visionary editor to helm its monthly print publication.

Comstock’s magazine is the premier business publication for California’s Capital Region, which includes Sacramento and the 10 surrounding counties.An ideal candidate will have a solid background in writing and editing, including experience managing freelance writers and in-house staff. The EIC is a key member of the management team and works hand in hand with the digital and production departments.

The position has two key elements: commissioning high-quality content that engages the region’s entrepreneurs around an array of topics and issues that face business leaders and ambitious professionals looking to advance their careers, as well as coordinating print production so that our magazine is published on time and on budget.

Comstock’s Publishing is a modern media company. While our print publication has been a regional staple for 26 years, our website and digital platforms are constantly evolving. An ideal candidate will be forward-thinking with a working knowledge of current industry trends, including delivery methods and revenue sources. The EIC will work closely with the Director of Digital Content to concept stories and plan how to best deliver them to our readership through a variety of channels.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assign and edit 4-5 features and 4-5 departments each month, planning well in advance to facilitate ad sales
  • Oversee Special Sections Editor and approve monthly promotional sections
  • Oversee Art Director to ensure that brand aesthetic is maintained throughout print publication
  • Assist with multiple rounds of review, making edits as needed
  • Attend key community events and editorial board meetings as Comstock’s representative

  • Ability to multitask
  • Networking savvy and business acumen

Key Qualifications:

  • 3 years experience in upper editorial management
  • MBA or
  • Degree in journalism, english or communications or
  • Proven alternative that checks this box with a bold stroke.

This is a full-time, permanent position. Salary is commensurate with experience.
